Glimpse Spider-Man's Musical Future In New Image from Marc Webb's Reboot

nullThe newest image from director Marc Webb's “The Amazing Spider-Man” reboot has hit the net, and it hints a musical interlude of dazzling import could loom in the webbed crusader's future, and he's developed the perfect accessories for it.

Form-fitting, durable, and with a touch of visual splendor, Spidey's new moonwalk boots guarantee from star Andrew Garfield a show-stopping setpiece to rival Tobey Maguire's emo shuffle in “Spider-Man 3.” It's a guarantee, or rather, it would be, if the image were anything more than just another studio offering in the film's promotional lead-up.

Speaking of Garfield though, Marc Webb spoke recently at Wondercon, where he showed footage and talked about his lead, even revealing the point where he knew the part was his. “We were doing a scene that's not in the movie, where he was eating a cheeseburger and telling Gwen (Emma Stone) to like calm down while he is eating food. And the way he ate this food — it was such a dumb task — such a dumb independent activity that you give to an actor to do, and he did it.” Webb added, “I felt like there's something in the way he embodied and committed to that really tiny minutia — I just hadn't seen before. I can't explain exactly what I felt like it worked, but that was it.”

Aside from consumption technique, Webb also spoke about his specific direction with the film, and what new ground he wanted to cover. “I felt it was important to start to define the parts of Peter Parker that were new and different. I mean, I think Peter Parker emerges from this orphan environment. He's abandoned by his parents at a very young age and that has an emotional consequence that tracks for the rest of his life. I felt like that was an important thing to hit on, and that emerges, I think, in a surly, sometimes punk-rock attitude, and that quippy, really trickster-y behavior the Spider-Man takes on.”

That new ground, hopefully with breakdancing involved, can be seen when “The Amazing Spider-Man” hits theatres on July 3rd. [Facebook/Yahoo]
