Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, how do you redo a “Godzilla” movie? Easy, redo the same story, a monster that attacks Japan at a very fragile time in their history, but make it real, epic, thrilling, and emotionally scary. Essentially, Toho is modernizing the story emotionally and psychologically. Obviously, the monster looks much different from the rubber-suit original films, so in that sense, a redo from Toho makes a lot of sense.

Here’s the synopsis:

This is the first domestic Japanese film since Shin Godzilla in 2016. GODZILLA MINUS ONE is the story of an already devastated postwar Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla. It is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki.

“Godzilla Minus One” debuts in Japan on November 3 before arriving in the U.S. on December 1. You can watch the new trailer below.
