Gwendoline Christie Among 3 ‘Game Of Thrones’ Actors That Landed Emmy Noms From Self-Submission After HBO Didn’t Enter Them

It’s always good practice to be your own biggest cheerleader. Whether it’s in your job or just life, in general, you should always be proud of your accomplishments and not be afraid to put yourself out there for recognition. Apparently, that’s sometimes exactly what you have to do to get an Emmy nomination, as well. At least for some of the cast of “Game of Thrones,” that is.

According to THR, three castmembers of the massive HBO series “Game of Thrones” self-submitted for Emmy consideration after HBO didn’t submit. And in the case of Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen, and Carice van Houten, it worked because each of them landed a coveted Emmy nomination for their roles in the final season of the series.

The report claims that the three actors paid the $225 fee to submit their own work for consideration for the 2019 Emmys after they learned that HBO would not be submitting anything from the trio. Why didn’t HBO submit the work of three of the stars of the series? Well, speculation says that the network just had to draw the line somewhere and was probably worried that too many nominees in the same category would dilute the chances of one actor or actress winning the trophy.

In the case of Christie, she’s now up for Supporting Actress in a Drama against fellow cast members Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams. Clearly, that’s a ‘Thrones’-dominated category. For Allen, he’s not fairing much better, up against colleagues Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage for Supporting Actor. Van Houten has it moderately better, as the only ‘Thrones’ performer in the Guest Actress in a Drama Series category.

THR is also reporting that now that they’ve earned nominations, HBO will support the three actors in their campaigns for winning the trophy.
