You don’t even have to open a history book to know that New York City has been and is currently home to what might be the most diverse conglomeration of people in the entire world. That’s a good reason why it’s sometimes dubbed “the city that never sleeps.” Wouldn’t it be fascinating to see what is a complicated cast of residents navigates such an environment? You would need some kind of common thread, though. For three seasons, the HBO series “High Maintenance” utilized marijuana as a window into these lives, and a fourth go-around is coming soon.

The show’s creators—Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair—got the inspiration for it during a bike ride through Brooklyn. Its first iteration ran for six seasons as a web series on Vimeo, before HBO acquired it. Additionally, a number of recognizable faces from film and TV have already crossed paths with the project’s cannabis courier main character and include Dan Stevens (“Downton Abbey” & “Legion”), Hannibal Buress (“Broad City” & “Tag”), Yael Stone (“Orange Is the New Black”), and “Girls” star and brainchild Lena Dunham. It’s a big town, so you never know who might pop up next!

Based on the web series from Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, High Maintenance stars Sinclair as “The Guy,” a bike-riding, weed-delivery salesman with an eclectic variety of Brooklyn clients.
