'Atlanta' Director Hiro Murai Returns To Direct More 'Barry' For Season 2

If you’re not watching “Barry,” I can only assume that it’s because of the sheer amount of good series out there during this era of Peak TV has made it so the Bill Hader series somehow flew under your radar. However, if you’re avoiding it for any other reason, then you’re missing out on one of the more unique, funny, well-made shows on any network or streaming service. And from the sounds of it, the upcoming season 2 is going to be more of the same.

In a new interview with IndieWire, “Barry” star Hader was asked about the directorial lineup for the upcoming season. For those that don’t know, the first season of “Barry” featured acclaimed director (and one of the hottest filmmakers in Hollywood) Hiro Murai on 4 episodes, as well as series creators Bill Hader and Alec Berg getting their own respective directorial gigs. So for season 2, it looks like Hader and Co. really upped their game.

“Hiro Murai is directing the first two, which is cool, then I’m directing two, Alec is directing two, Liza Johnson is directing one, and a woman named Minkie [Spiro], who just directed ‘Kidding,’ ,” Hader said. “We’ve got a really fucking cool group of people this season, but also it was like, ‘How the hell did we get Hiro to do this? This is so cool.’ Everybody wants him right now, so when he said yes, I was like, ‘He said yes?!’” [laughs]

So there you have it, “Barry” has somehow convinced Murai to come back, even though he’s currently juggling multiple other projects. And to add to the murderer’s row of directors, there’s Minkie Spiro, whose work on “Kidding” looks incredible, and Liza Johnson, who is probably best known for her work on “Elvis & Nixon,” as well as a variety of TV series.

It appears that “Barry” season 2 is probably still a little ways off, as production can’t begin until Hader is done with “IT: Chapter 2.” But consider this your reminder that if you haven’t seen the first season, get to it!
