James Gunn Refutes Rumors Of Auditioning Batman & Wonder Woman Actors, Teases Newly Greenlit DC Project

From time to time, James Gunn takes to social media to interact with fans and answer a wide-ranging group of questions while also clearing up various internet rumors. Over the weekend, Gunn was on a bit of a run by refuting a rumor that DC Studios was auditioning actors to play the DCU versions of Batman and Wonder Woman for his “Superman” sequel, “Man of Tomorrow.”

“No. All these rumors of Batman and Wonder Woman auditions are false,” Gunn responded to a fan on Threads, while also debunking the talk of the two showing up in his next “Superman” adventure (confirming Sam McCurdy of “Shōgun” and “Peacemaker” will be the sequel’s cinematographer, moving on from longtime DOP Henry Braham).

Meanwhile, those two DC heroes are said to be getting their own solo films with Andy Muschietti (“IT: Welcome To Derry”) still seemingly directing “The Brave & The Bold,” although, Gunn is still waiting on a script and reiterates that “The Batman Part II” is their main prority at the moment (MCU alumni Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson in the mix for new roles).

I’m dependent on when there’s an actionable script ready, so there is no way of me guessing this. Also, frankly, we’re well into ‘Batman 2,’ and I wouldn’t want to cloud the Batsphere until after that,” Gunn said when asked for an update on “The Brave & The Bold.”

The co-head of DC Studios briefly teased that another mysterious project has been given a greenlight, without naming it. So, let the speculation begin.

Gunn had recently confirmed on Instagram that the “Mister Miracle” animated series will be set within the greater DCU, alluding that those “New Gods” characters will carry over to the live-action iteration, not unlike how Gunn framed “The Creature Commandos.” Adding that the show will be an adaptation of the modern 12-issue run from Tom King and Mitch Gerads.

Thankfully, Gunn is accessible to the DC fandom since most studio heads/executives do their best to limit their public interactions or correcting the record until press interviews. We’ll just have to wait and see who the studio ultimately selects to play the DCU versions of Batman and Wonder Woman.
