You’ve been warned, so here are those spoilers.
The scene with Joker takes place in the post-apocalypse setting seen in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” as Darkseid has taken over the planet and it has a “Mad Max: Fury Road” vibe to it. Referred to as the “Knightmare sequence,” it was a dream that Bruce had about Earth’s potential fall.
Zack gives some insight into the scene.
“The cool thing about the scene is that it’s Joker talking directly to Batman about Batman,” Snyder said during the outlet’s reveal of Leto’s Joker. “It’s Joker analyzing Batman about who he is and what he is. That’s the thing I also felt like fans deserved from the DC Universe. That is to say, the Jared Leto Joker and the Ben Affleck Batman, they never really got together. It seemed uncool to me that we would make it all the way through this incarnation of Batman and Joker without seeing them come together.”
He also admits there probably won’t be another movie which is why he was keen on adding the Joker and tying up plot threads he alluded to back in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice League” with the former Robin’s costume haunting Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne. Alluding to how Robin was killed via flashbacks.
“I’d always wanted to explore the death of Robin,” Snyder tells Vanity Fair. “And if there ever was going to be a next movie, which, of course, there probably won’t be, I wanted to do a thing wherein flashbacks we learn how Robin died, how Joker killed him and burned down Wayne Manor, and that whole thing that happened between him and Bruce.”
There is also an assumption that the added Deathstroke scene could also be taking place in this setting as well, but that’s unclear as of now. As previously mentioned, “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” will drop March 18 on HBO Max. Check out the photos below.
