Jennifer Lopez Wants To "Shoot Her Toe Off" For Turning Down Diane Lane's Role In 'Unfaithful'

One of the biggest Oscar nomination snubs of the year is definitely Jennifer Lopez in the Best Supporting Actress category. After getting nominated by most guilds and the Golden Globes, people just assumed that she was going to land a nom (and serve as one of the frontrunners) in the Supporting Actress category for “Hustlers.” Alas, it didn’t happen and Lopez didn’t land her first Oscar nomination. However, in a new interview with Vanity Fair, the actress talked about a specific project she turned down years ago that might have landed her an Oscar nom.

While it would be unfair to assume that just because Diane Lane was able to land a Best Actress nomination in “Unfaithful” that Lopez would have been able to do the same. That being said, “Hustlers” shows that Lopez is a good actress and could have probably done well in the role. That is if she didn’t turn it down.

“There was a movie called ‘Unfaithful,’” Lopez explained. “And it was offered to me and the script, for me, wasn’t all the way there. I should have known that Adrian Lyne was going to kill it, but I didn’t. Diane Lane was so perfect for it, and it was obviously meant to be her, but when I think about that…I want to literally, like, shoot my toe off. I do.”

So, Lopez can’t be too hard on herself for turning down “Unfaithful.” Of course, if she turned it down after Adrian Lyne was attached to direct, that would have been a whole other story. But she likely had no clue that the filmmaker behind “Fatal Attraction,” “Flashdance,” and “Indecent Proposal” was going to end up directing.

Either way, Lopez has done pretty well for herself in the interim, and Lane ultimately turned in a great performance in “Unfaithful.” So, it was basically a win-win for everyone involved.
