John Cusack To Star In His First Regular TV Role In Gillian Flynn's Amazon Series 'Utopia'

It’s been a little while since we’ve been really excited for a John Cusack-starring project. His career has been filled with ups and downs, but it seems like the roller coaster ride is about to begin an upward trajectory, as he’s signed on to star in one of our most anticipated upcoming TV series.

According to Variety, Cusack has signed on to star in the Amazon series “Utopia.” We’ve been following the development of “Utopia” for a while now, as it was originally being created by David Fincher, along with his “Gone Girl” writer Gillian Flynn and star Rooney Mara. Unfortunately, the relationship between Fincher and the network that was going to release the series, HBO, deteriorated and they both parted ways. Now, Flynn continues to work on the series without Mara and Flynn, and with the help of Amazon.

“Utopia” tells the story of a group of young adults that come together after meeting online and find themselves in possession of an underground comic book that is filled with conspiracy theories that may or may not be accurate. Everything gets thrown into chaos when a shadowy organization attempts to track these people down and it’s up to them to save the world.

Cusack will star as Dr. Kevin Christie, an Elon Musk-type scientific, media-savvy person that wants to change the world through biotech. He joins previously announced cast members Sasha Lane and Rainn Wilson in the series. This marks Cusack’s first series regular role.
