Another award winning director is headed over to HBO joining the ranks of Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann, David Fincher, Bill Condon, Alexander Payne and Kathryn Bigelow. Jonathan Demme (“The Silence Of The Lambs,” “Rachel Getting Married”) is set to direct two episodes of Mike White’s HBO program “Enlightened.”
Back in April, HBO ordered nine episodes of the show that “stars Laura Dern as a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening and decides to live an enlightened life, which creates havoc at home and work.” Luke Wilson, Diane Ladd, Timm Sharp and Amy Hill co-star.
But “Enlightened” isn’t the only project Demme has cooking at HBO. Earlier this year it was announced that he was working on a detective series “The Long Fall” based on Walter Mosley’s newly launched series featuring Leonid McGill, a New York City private detective and former boxer. Demme will be co-writing the script and directing the pilot. Also on the director’s busy plate is “Honeymoon With Harry,” with Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro attached. The project is based on an old Paul Haggis script originally sold to New Line back in 2004.
