Despite being his most polarizing film to date, Jordan Peele’s “Nope” still a very respectable 83% on Rotten Tomatoes and more than $171 million at the worldwide box office. Sure, that latter number is almost roughly $100 million less than the grosses of “Get Out” and “Us,” but given the current theatrical climate, it’s a big win. That means fans and theater owners are very much anticipating the next Peele film. And while there hasn’t been any information about the untitled project yet, the filmmaker has finally opened up about it, revealing it could be his best film yet.
Jordan Peele’s 2024 movie was recently taken off the calendar by Universal (including some additional Monkeypaw projects, too), so now we know it’s not coming til at least 2025. But he briefly talked about it on the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast. Peele only gingerly talked about the movie in vague terms but suggested he’s “clear” on what it will be, and it could be his favorite film if he executes it properly.

“This has been… obviously, it’s been an interesting year because the writer’s strike had had me in a state of listening, and that’s where I need to be,” he began cautiously. “I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right.”
This is all Peele would allow about the film, so he’s obviously still keeping all the details super close to the vest.
Interestingly enough, Peele also told O’Brien he’s been hosting friends in a “fake movie” game that’s somewhat akin to, at least in his mind, “Dungeons And Dragons” in that it’s an imaginary game where people select cards from a deck and come up with an imaginary movie and try to pitch it as some kind of creative exercise and window into other people’s creative process. Peele has played it with O’Brien, and they came up with an idea for a Christmas movie. he’s also played it with Ryan Coogler, Paul Thomas Anderson, The Daniels, and more.

“These are a bunch of sessions I’ve been doing with people I admire,” Peele explained of this game that he has created. “I don’t know what’s going to happen with these [ideas], but they are really amazing about learning how other creative people think about the filmmaking process. It’s kind of like ‘DnD,’ but making movies and a fake movie.”
O’Brien even said he thought it could be real potentially. “I remember thinking at the time, ‘I absolutely think this could be a Christmas movie,’” he said, to which Peele replied, “That’s the fun of it.” Don’t put too much stock into that, as Peele later said he did not “care at all” about spoilers, suggesting none of these ideas will turn into films, but he did sound like he’s having a fun time hosting these games that he’s said sometimes go on for at least two hours.
