Kevin Bacon Wants To Get 'R.I.P.D.'

Kevin Bacon must be getting a thrill these days out of playing the baddie. We’re only halfway through the year he’s been on screen in three straight films where he’s the villain: he was the drug dealing Jacques in “Super“; the twisted Sebastian Shaw in “X-Men: First Class” and the wife-stealing co-worker of Julianne Moore in this weekend’s “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” Well, people must like what they’ve been seeing because he’s ready to make things difficult for the heroes in the forthcoming “R.I.P.D.

If the negotiations go through, Bacon will square off against Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in the adaptation of the Dark Horse book about a pair of deceased detectives, one a recently murdered cop (Bridges), the other a gunslinger from the Old West (Reynolds), with the former trying to find his killer. The film is based on the graphic novel by Peter M. Lenkov which was adapted by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi who have both paired on “Clash Of The Titans” and “Æon Flux” in the past which is enough to give us some pause. Robert Schwentke, riding high off the success of his comic adaptation of “Red” last year, is in the director’s chair.

It’s a great high concept flick, and while this is casting up very nicely — though there is still no word if Jodie Foster will join the group — the behind the camera talent isn’t quite convincing just yet. No word yet on when this will lens but there is plenty of time as it won’t hit theaters until June 28, 2013. [Variety]
