After the action and adventure blockbusters of the summer, get ready to cool down with the chilling murder mystery of the fall: “Knives Out.” The high-stakes story is led by American director Rian Johnson (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Looper,” “Brick“) and will be released this November. We’ve named it #1 on the 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2019.
Here’s the synopsis: from Wikipedia (for now): Described as a modern take on the whodunit murder mystery, the film follows a family gathering gone horribly awry when the family’s patriarch (Christopher Plummer) dies and two detectives (Daniel Craig and Lakeith Stanfield) are sent to investigate the scene.
Johnson is no stranger to the world of cinematic crime; his debut feature, “Brick,” centered around the mysterious murder of a teenage girl, and his status soared after directing several critically-acclaimed episodes of “Breaking Bad.” “Knives Out” will reportedly draw not only Johnson’s experience with murder mysteries but classics of the genre as well, including: “Death on the Nile,” “Deathtrap,” “Clue,” “Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Private Eyes,” “The Last of Sheila,” “Evil Under the Sun,” “The Mirror Crack’d,” and “Something’s Afoot.”
The cast boasts an impressive entourage of stars, with Daniel Craig (“James Bond” series, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo“) and Lakeith Stanfield (“Get Out,” “Sorry to Bother You“) in its leading roles. Also joining the cast is Chris Evans (“Captain America“), Michael Shannon (“The Shape of Water“), Ana de Armas (“Blade Runner 2049“), Jamie Lee Curtis (“Halloween“), and Toni Collette (“Hereditary“).
“Knives Out” was sold to Lionsgate at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival after its original announcement in September of 2018. It was produced by Film Nation Entertainment, Media Rights Capital, and Ram Bergman Productions. Filming took place in Boston, MA.
“Knives Out” will premiere on November 27, 2019, to theaters across the United States and Europe. Will you be there to find out whodunnit?
