Without a doubt, one of the biggest failures, both critically and at the box office, of 2024 was “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The film is the sequel to a billion-dollar blockbuster, and only earned a little over $207 million worldwide. Not only that, the film has a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes. Let’s not forget the original film earned Oscars gold. Needless to say, “Joker: Folie à Deux” was a bomb, but Lady Gaga is taking it in stride.

In a new interview with Elle, “Joker: Folie à Deux” star Lady Gaga talked about the film’s lack of success. She’s not mad. She’s not freaking out. Instead, Gaga said that these things just sort of happen, and it’s okay.
“People just sometimes don’t like some things,” Gaga said. “It’s that simple. And I think to be an artist, you have to be willing for people to sometimes not like it. And you keep going even if something didn’t connect in the way that you intended.”
To say that people didn’t like “Joker: Folie à Deux” is a bit of an understatement. The film was openly mocked online, with many people utterly confused as to why Todd Phillips would turn his highly anticipated sequel into a jukebox musical. The film just felt like too big of a departure.
It’s clear that the failure of “Joker: Folie à Deux” isn’t slowing Gaga down. Not only will she continue her acting career, but she also has a new album arriving just around the corner. And it’s not like star Joaquin Phoenix is going to lose any jobs either.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” is available to watch now on Max.
