The trailer for “Little Brother” sells the movie on a pretty basic comic imbalance: John Cena is the guy trying to maintain the life he has built for himself, and Eric André is the brother who shows up and immediately makes that a problem.

That’s really the pitch for Netflix’s new comedy from Matt Spicer, the filmmaker behind “Ingrid Goes West.” Cena plays a famous real estate agent whose carefully curated world is upended when his eccentric “little brother,” played by André, unexpectedly reappears. Netflix’s official synopsis describes the movie as revolving around that reunion, with the rest of the cast including Michelle Monaghan, Sherry Cola, Christopher Meloni, Ego Nwodim, and Caleb Hearon.
It’s a smart enough pairing on paper. Cena has gotten a lot of mileage out of playing men whose size and confidence don’t protect them from embarrassment, while André’s whole screen persona is built around making normal social behavior feel suddenly impossible. Put that inside a movie about image, family, and a realtor’s idea of control, and you have a fairly sturdy comic setup without needing to over-explain it.
Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, the filmmakers behind “The D-Train,” wrote the script, with David Bernad producing for Middle Child Pictures alongside Ruben Fleischer. The film premieres June 26 on Netflix.
