Luca Guadagnino Wants Dakota Johnson In 'Call Me By Your Name 2' As A "New England Kind Of Hoochie Woman"

Director Luca Guadagnino is having a moment right now. Coming off of last year’s acclaimed “Call Me By Your Name,” the filmmaker is poised to make an even bigger splash with the upcoming horror remake “Suspiria.” Even though Guadagnino is prepping the world for “Suspiria,” there are many fans of his work looking forward to what’s next for the Italian filmmaker. In a new profile in The New Yorker, we learn a little more about what his future might hold, including why he wants Dakota Johnson for “Call Me By Your Name 2.”

But before we get to the highly talked about a potential sequel, the profile illuminates why the filmmaker left the production of “Rio,” which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal. Recently, it was announced the Ed Berger, best known for directing the recent “Patrick Melrose,” took over for Guadagnino as the director on the project that combines two of the biggest stars working today.

The article talks about a conversation that the Italian director had with the studio behind “Rio,” and it shows exactly how things ultimately fell apart. “I don’t see a way to make the movie with eight weeks of prep—it’s impossible,” Guadagnino said to the studio over the phone. “It takes time. The snake in the car!”

“You’re not ready to proceed in the way we should proceed,” he continued.

Ultimately, the studio’s insistence on speeding up the production process wouldn’t gel with Guadagnino, who hoped for more time, and the director had to pull out of the project. “A terrible waste, because the actors are amazing,” he said.

The report also talks about how after the “Rio” debacle, he was talking to “Call Me By Your Name” star Armie Hammer about a potential sequel. (Side note: Luca Guadagnino loves talking about a sequel.)

This time, however, we learn about where Hammer’s character might be. More specifically, who he will be with. The filmmaker says that he envisions Dakota Johnson as Hammer’s wife in the film. “She has to be a New England kind of hoochie woman,” he said. “You have, maybe, five children.”

“The only problem is the title,” Guadagnino continued. “It cannot be ‘Call Me by Your Name Two.’”

Even though Guadagnino is no stranger to talking about sequels and projects he wants to work on, as is evident with “Rio,” fans can’t let the cart come before the horse and should wait until filming is commencing before believing the rumors.

“Suspiria” hits theaters on October 26.
