Got a Tip?

Luca Guadagnino Almost Yelled At “Disrespectful” Viewer Using A Phone During ‘Suspiria’ Premiere

Imagine, for a second, you’re filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. You’ve spent millions of dollars, poured your blood, sweat, and tears into the finished product, and now it’s time to present “Suspiria” at 2018’s most prestigious film festival in front of an anxious crowd. However, the whole time you’re sitting in the crowd, hoping that everyone is appreciating all your hard work, you can’t help but notice somebody using their phone. Needless to say, that’s a nightmare. And sadly, it’s the reality that Guadagnino had to endure during his Venice premiere of the upcoming horror remake.

In a new interview with the AP (via USA Today), Guadagnino recounts his experience with a “disrespectful” viewer at the premiere:

“There was one guy, on like row 10 down below, who was watching his phone all the time. And I spent the entire evening thinking, ‘I’m going to go down there and tell him to stop [using] his fucking phone now because it’s so disrespectful. You have this light in the darkness of the theater and I really hated it.”

Obviously, as many film fans will attest, there’s nothing worse than someone using their phone during a film. It’s definitely enraging. This story goes to show you that Guadagnino must have great restraint and willpower to not publicly shame the person for using a cellphone during a world premiere.

Hopefully, this is not a sign of things to come, as “Suspiria” hits theaters later this fall. The film clocks in at over two-and-a-half hours in length, so there is definitely the potential for those a-hole phone checkers to be present. Let’s just hope the horrific imagery on screen during the film is enough to keep phones in purses and pockets.

As mentioned, “Suspiria” recently premiered at Venice and will hit select theaters on October 26 before its wide release the following week.
