The upcoming 63rd annual New York Film Festival has selected its opening feature film as Luca Guadagnino‘s “After The Hunt,” which is going to be the first to screen at the event, as the main cast features Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri.
This fantastic news comes our way from The Hollywood Reporter, adding the film’s North American premiere at New York’s Alice Tully Hall on Friday, September 26.
“After The Hunt” is directed by Guadagnino from a script penned by Nora Garrett, as the rest of the cast consists of Michael Stuhlbarg (“Boardwalk Empire”) and Chloë Sevigny (“Magic Farm”), with Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum producing the pic at Amazon MGM Studios.
A logline from the report:
“Yale philosophy professor Alma (Roberts), whose personal and professional lives are disrupted after her PhD candidate protégée Maggie (Edebiri) accuses Alma’s longtime friend and colleague Hank (Andrew Garfield) of sexual assault. Exploring the murkiness of contemporary morality, the film sees Alma navigating minefields of gender, sexuality, race, and institutional power, as she attempts to reconcile her choices with past demons.”
“After The Hunt” had been previously selected for the Venice Film Festival 2025 lineup and is set to be released in theaters in New York and L.A. on October 10 before expanding to more screens on October 17.
Guadagnino is gearing up to shoot his tech world biopic “Artificial“ (casting process is underway) and is still attached to Lionsgate‘s gestating “American Psycho” remake after the filmmaker’s shocking exit from the DC Studios‘ WWII action pic “Sgt. Rock” movie starring Colin Farrell.
