'Luke Cage' Faces A Barrage Of Bullets In New Clip & Featurette

The partnership between Netflix and Marvel has, so far, been a perfect match for both companies. The freedom of Netflix has allowed Marvel the opportunity to create high quality, very adult series featuring some of the lesser-known Marvel characters. After two successful seasons of “Daredevil” and one season of “Jessica Jones,” Netflix is set to premiere the next Marvel property, “Luke Cage.” And judging by the two quick videos released recently, “Luke Cage” looks to separate itself from everything Marvel has released before.

With a setting like Harlem, and a cast of predominantly minority actors, “Luke Cage” already stands distinct from every superhero adaptation to date. With the recent news and political climate, it’s clear that Marvel isn’t holding back from embracing the opportunity they have with a character like Luke Cage. In the first clip, after handling a couple bad guys swiftly, the bulletproof Cage stands in front of a few more who are ready to fire. Wearing a hoodie and with no weapon, Luke stands calmly as multiple people fire guns directly at him, with no effect.

In the second clip, the music of “Luke Cage” takes focus. The producers and artists, such as rapper Method Man, are shown discussing how important it is to have a show like “Luke Cage” and why the music just might steal the show. Featuring a variety of soul and hip-hop, the soundtrack to the series is another stark contrast to the superhero adaptations before it.

Netflix expects big things from “Luke Cage.” The streaming service is entering the last half of their launch into the team-up show “The Defenders,” and they need “Luke Cage” to continue the success of the previous Marvel series. If it’s half as good as what’s come before, then Netflix will be sitting pretty when “Luke Cage” premieres all 13 episodes on September 30th.
