Are two murders more than a coincidence? The new film “Maggie Moore(s)” presents an intriguing case in which homicide victims share the same name — these disturbing deaths occurring within just days of one another. Finding the murderer falls on a down on his luck police chief whose own life is filled with problems.
Fans of “Mad Men” will be especially interested in the film’s talent behind the camera and in the starring role. John Slattery produces and directs the project, while Jon Hamm stars as the beleaguered chief. It’s certainly not the first time they’re teamed up since the Emmy-winning series; they both appeared in the 2022 film “Confess, Fletch,” with Hamm taking over the famous comedic role.
The screenplay for ‘Moore(s)’ hails from Paul Bernbaum; this veteran screenwriter has worked on numerous projects — including “The Nightmare Room.” His credits also include classic series like “The A-Team” and “21 Jump Street.”
The film’s official synopsis:
When two women with the same name are murdered days apart, small-town police chief Jordan Sanders (Hamm) finds himself wading through an unlikely collection of cheating husbands, lonely hearts, nosy neighbors, and contract killers in an effort to put the pieces of the case, and his life, together. The film is inspired by actual events.
Tina Fey, Micah Stock, Nick Mohammed, Happy Anderson, and Mary Holland also star in “Maggie Moore(s).” The film will have its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival before arriving in theaters and on-demand on June 16. Watch the trailer below.
