We are just over a month away from the release of Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” which just wrapped up an awards season that saw the series nominated for Best Drama at the Emmys. And while the first trailer for the upcoming season hinted at a bunch of big reveals and twists that fans will find over the course of the new episodes, one star of the show hints that the really good stuff is actually coming in Seasons 3 and 4.
According to Giancarlo Esposito, speaking to People, “The Mandalorian” has so much to explore that future seasons (which apparently include previously unannounced Seasons 3 and 4) will be where the real “answers” are.
“We’re living in a universe that is huge and there’s so much to explore,” the actor said. “So I think this show is going to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s gonna come in Season 3 and Season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers.”
A couple of interesting things come into question when you talk about Esposito’s comments. First, it appears that unlike the series’ “Star Wars” film cousins, “The Mandalorian” definitely has a plan that stretches out to several seasons, which will likely give fans a bit of relief. And secondly, it seems as if Esposito, who portrays Moff Gideon in the series, is likely going to be sticking around for a few years, at least.
Considering Lucasfilm loves to keep details of upcoming episodes a closely guarded secret, it’s unclear if Esposito’s character will continue to play a large part in the show for seasons to come or if maybe he’s just throwing people off the scent. That being said, it’s clear that Disney+ and Lucasfilm know that “The Mandalorian” is a bright spot in the “Star Wars” lineup right now and will likely keep it around for as long as possible.
