Last year, we saw Joel Coen take the first step out on his own, typically only ever working as a director with his brother, Ethan Coen. That film, “The Tragedy of Macbeth,” was acclaimed by critics and eventually earned three Oscar nominations. Ethan Coen, who seemingly was leaving film behind to focus on theatre, has decided to try the solo filmmaking path for himself, and he’s found the two stars to lead his cast.

According to Deadline, Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan have been cast as the two leads in Ethan Coen’s untitled new film. As mentioned, this new film marks the solo debut for Ethan Coen after working decades alongside his brother. The new movie is co-written by Coen alongside his wife, Tricia Cooke. Exact details are unknown at this time regarding the film’s title and plot, but judging by the talent involved, whatever it is, it has instantly become a must-see.
Qualley is perhaps best known for her small role in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” as well as her Emmy-nominated role in the recent limited series, “Maid.” She broke out in a big way thanks to her role in “The Leftovers.” Her most recent roles are in the Claire Denis film “The Stars at Noon” and the upcoming Yorgos Lanthimos feature, “Poor Things.”

Viswanathan became an overnight sensation thanks to her scene-stealing role in the comedy film “Blockers.” Since then, she’s tackled several solid roles in projects such as “Miracle Workers,” “Hala,” and “Bad Education.” She also has a couple of notable roles coming up with the films “Cat Person” and “The Beanie Bubble.”
Ethan Coen, on the other hand, really doesn’t need much of an introduction at all. He and his brother are responsible for some of the best films of the past 30 years, with his films earning an astonishing 42 Oscar nominations and six wins. He won Best Picture and Best Director for “No Country for Old Men.”
A release date for the untitled film is unknown at this time, but filming is expected to begin this fall.
