‘Beanie Bubble’: Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks & More To Star In Beanie Baby Comedy Co-Directed By OK Go Singer

If you’re someone of a certain age, you probably remember the Beanie Baby craze in the ‘90s. For some reason, decades ago, people became obsessed with little stuffed animals and swore that they would become collector’s items worth millions in the future. And since no one knows what the hell a Beanie Baby is in 2022, that was obviously a really foolish investment. Well, foolish investments and silly crazes make for great entertainment, and thus, Hollywood is putting a fun cast together for a new film, “The Beanie Bubble.”

THR reports that Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook, and Geraldine Viswanathan are all set to lead the cast of the upcoming comedy film, “Beanie Bubble” for Apple. The film is written by ‘SNL’ writer Kristin Gore. She is set to also co-direct the film alongside her husband, Damian Kulash. You may know that name thanks to Kulash being the singer of the band OK Go, as well as the person who directs all their viral music videos.

The four actors announced are all great, with Galifianakis leading the way. He’s probably best known for his role in the “Hangover” franchise and “Between Two Ferns.” Banks is a veteran comedic actress, appearing in a number of projects including the “Pitch Perfect” franchise and “Wet Hot American Summer.” Snook is best known for her recent role in HBO’sSuccession,” while Viswanathan has been seen in “Bad Education” and “Blockers.”

According to the official description, the film “pulls back the curtain on the absurdities and injustices of the American Dream — particularly the female relationship to it. It’s a celebration of the women who helped power Ty Warner’s success, whose strengths and good instincts shaped and amplified the phenomenon, but whose names are not on the Beanie Babies’ heart-shaped tags.”

“Beanie Bubble” is inspired by Zac Bissonnette’s book, “The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute.” Again, if you have no idea how ridiculous the Beanie Baby craze was back in the day, just go to YouTube and watch some videos. It’s bonkers, truly.

A release date for the film has yet to be announced.
