Miles Teller & Eddie Redmayne In Talks To Play Mismatched CIA Agents In Doug Liman’s ‘Star One’

The “Edge of Tomorrow” filmmaker is lining up a new spy thriller built around an uneasy CIA partnership.

Variety has scoop on another buzzy project hitting the Cannes market later this month: a spy thriller from director Doug Liman that stars Eddie Redmayne and Miles Teller titled “Star One.”

The project stars the two actors as wildly mismatched CIA agents — Teller’s daring field agent and Redmayne’s strait-laced strategist — who must team to execute a top-secret mission involving the covert delivery of arms across thousands of miles of enemy territory. And apparently, a logline from Variety claims “Star One” is based on a true story: “This is the untold true story of the first intelligence star ever awarded for one of the most important yet least known missions in modern history.”

David Coggeshall pens the script for “Star One,” with P.J. van Sandwijk producing via Storyteller Productions alongside William Sherak via Project X Entertainment, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein. CAA will rep domestic sales for the film at Cannes, with Black Bear handling it internationally.

Teller’s recent roles include “Michael,” “Eternity,” and “The Gorge,” with James Gray‘s “Paper Tiger,” set for its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, up next. Expect “Paper Tiger” in theaters from NEON as early as this Fall.

As for Redmayne, he’s been busy with Peacock‘s “The Day Of The Jackal“; he’s shooting Season 2 of that series now. On the film front, the British actor has two intriguing projects on the way: Panic Carefully at Warner Bros. opposite Julia Roberts, and Hirokazu Kore-eda‘s next English-language over at Searchlight. Those movies will be Redmayne’s first since 2022’s Netflix film “The Good Nurse.”

Meanwhile, Liman is no stranger to shooting spec-ops pictures, with “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Fair Game,” and “The Bourne Identity” part of his filmography. More recent films for the director include “The Instigators” and “Road House,” with Bitcoin,” starring Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, and Gal Gadot, set to hit the big screen next. Stay tuned for an official theatrical release date for “Bitcoin.”

“Star One” is one of several irons in the fire for screenwriter Coggeshall. He’s also attached to the upcoming horror sequel “Orphan 3” (he wrote 2022’s Orphan: First Kill) as well The Mummy 4,” starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

Stay tuned for news on which studio will pick up “Star One” at the Cannes Market later this month.
