Mother’s Day programming usually leans sentimental. Hulu is going in a messier direction with “Alice and Steve,” a new six-part comedy about a woman whose best friend starts dating her 26-year-old daughter, turning one of the most intimate relationships in her life into a personal betrayal.

Hulu has unveiled the official trailer for the series, which stars Nicola Walker (“The Split,” “Unforgotten”) and Jemaine Clement (“What We Do in the Shadows,” “Flight of the Conchords”). The show arrives with strong festival heat, too: “Alice and Steve” had its world premiere in competition at CANNESERIES 2026, where it won Best Series. It will next have its North American premiere at the Tribeca Festival before debuting June 8 on Hulu and Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., and Disney+ internationally.
Created and written by Sophie Goodhart (“Sex Education”), the series follows Alice, who is devastated when her best friend Steve begins a relationship with her daughter, Izzy. Convinced she is about to lose both her closest friend and her child in one blow, Alice tries to sabotage the romance. Steve, however, is ready for the fight, and what begins as a friendship curdles into an escalating feud.
Hulu describes the series as an “anti-romantic comedy” about friendship, love, and revenge, with Alice and Steve’s battle raising the question of how far someone will go to protect a bond—or punish a betrayal.
The ensemble cast also includes Joel Fry (“Cruella”), Yali Topol Margalith (“The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”), Tyrese Eaton-Dyce, Marcia Warren, Eilidh Fisher, and Ebony Aboagye.
“Baby Reindeer” company Clerkenwell Films produces the series, with Tom Kingsley (“Stath Lets Flats”) directing. Petra Fried, Andy Baker, and Wim De Greef executive produce for Clerkenwell, and Fran du Pille produces. Lee Mason, Vice President, Scripted, Disney+ EMEA, commissioned the series.
“Alice and Steve” debuts June 8 on Hulu. Watch the trailer below.
