'Mister America' Trailer: Tim Heidecker Fights The Good Fight In His Attempt To Become District Attorney

Earlier this year, Netflix released the highly-anticipated political documentary, “Bringing Down the House,” which followed a group of women, as they attempt to win coveted seats in the House of Representatives. Later this fall, Magnolia Pictures is hoping to capture the same audience’s attention with another political film about an underdog attempting to take down the establishment in a government election, titled “Mister America.”

As you can see in the trailer for “Mister America,” it’s not easy to win the office of District Attorney in the city of San Bernardino. Especially if you’re coming off a controversial murder acquittal and have absolutely no experience as an attorney, or even have a law degree. But this is the mountain that Tim Heidecker has to climb to reach his goal of cleaning up local politics and restoring order to a town that he actually doesn’t even live in. Can a middle-aged white man overcome his obstacles and win the position that he’s absolutely not qualified for and has no business earning? You’ll have to watch and find out.

The film stars Heidecker, alongside Gregg Turkington and Terri Parks. The film comes from co-writer/director Eric Notarnicola, a frequent collaborator with Heidecker and Turkington. Look, if you laughed at the trailer and/or appreciate the work of those involved, then you just need to watch the film.

“Mister America” is set to arrive October 9.

Here’s the synopsis:

A freshman filmmaker follows Tim Heidecker during the final month of his campaign for district attorney. What begins as a profile of an outsider candidate facing an uphill battle evolves into a study of toxic delusion as Tim’s motivations and controversial past begin to unravel his candidacy. Taking on a popular incumbent has found Tim and his inexperienced campaign manager outmatched. Low on funds, experience, and connections, Tim hits the streets in an attempt to connect with voters, but has difficulty winning over the community. With word of his campaign spreading, former associates of Tim try to warn the public with stories of bad business deals, strained friendships and a failed court case in which he found himself accused of murder. With days until the election and his campaign in free-fall, Tim has to confront the unexpected costs of pursuing his dream.
