It’s hard to believe, but the original “Moana” was released eight years ago. That’s a long time for a film that feels like it’s still relatively “new.” Alas, it’s been quite a while, which makes it the perfect time for Disney to release a sequel.

As seen in the trailer, “Moana 2” tells the story of the title character as she goes on another sea-faring adventure to go battle an evil entity to help bring her people together again. Interestingly, “Moana 2” started as a limited series that was meant to debut on Disney+. However, with the studio looking more towards feature films and less streaming exclusives, the series was re-worked as a feature.
The film stars the vocal talents of Auli‘i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Hualālai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo. The film is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller.
“Moana 2” arrives in theaters on November 27. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” reunites Moana (voice of Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Johnson) three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
