'My Son' Trailer: James McAvoy & Claire Foy Star In A Completely Improvised Thriller Coming To Peacock

As if a new film starring James McAvoy and Claire Foy wasn’t enough to make an audience intrigued, the new Peacock film, “My Son,” adds an entirely different, experimental layer to the equation—improvisation.

As seen in the new trailer for “My Son,” Peacock wants everyone to be well-aware that this crime thriller isn’t like most other films you’re going to watch. You see, James McAvoy stars as a dad on the hunt for his missing kid. However, McAvoy is completely improvising his role, without knowing what’s going to happen with each scene. So, as the trailer points out, when the audience witnesses a plot twist, McAvoy will be reacting in as much shock because he will be learning about it for the first time as well.

Announced last October, “My Son” is actually a remake of a French film by director Christian Carion. And for the new version, Carion returned to the helm with McAvoy starring opposite Claire Foy in the cast. Will the experiment work? Will “My Son” start a trend of improvised thrillers? That’s still to be seen. However, judging by the trailer, it does appear that the film is a well-made, well-acted feature. It’s just a matter of seeing if the story comes together and doesn’t feel like an expensive actor’s exercise.
