Aussie actor Jai Courtney from “Jack Reacher” and “The Suicide Squad” plays a shark-obsessed serial killer in the new film “Dangerous Animals,” coming to theaters on June 6, and is heading to the Directors’ Fortnight lineup later this month at the Cannes Film Festival.
IFC Independent Film Company and Shudder, who are behind the pic’s theatrical release, have sent us a new trailer for “Dangerous Animals” to share.
Sean Byrnes (“The Devil’s Candy”) directs the horror thriller from a script penned by Nick Lepard. Joining Courtney among the cast are Hassie Harrison (“Yellowstone”), Josh Heuston (“Dune: The Prophecy”), Ella Newton, James Munn, and Rob Carlton.
An official synopsis for “Dangerous Animals”:
When Zephyr, a rebellious surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below. The young surfer must outwit a predator more dangerous than the ocean itself—will she escape, or become the next offering to the deep?
“It was the rare combination of serial killer and shark film. A high concept that would be highly marketable and could really cut through. However, the more I thought about it, the more excited I got about the chance to make a shark film where the shark isn’t the obvious antagonist. I thought, if ‘Jaws’ turned the shark into a monster, then this could be the long overdue film to correct the cruel misconception by pointing the finger at the real monster: man,” Byrnes said of his horror film in an official statement.
