Nicolas Cage Reteams With ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ Director Mike Figgis For ‘Exit 147’

Leaving Las VegasIt’s hard to remember a time when Nicolas Cage was a viable, award contending actor, and not just a guy who appeared in movies that serve as a career punchline. But indeed, Cage does have an Oscar on his shelf, and it’s thanks to Mike Figgis, who directed him in "Leaving Las Vegas." Now the pair are reuniting for a new movie, and one that was previously attached to Taylor Kitsch and Julian Jarrold (“Great Expectations,” “Brideshead Revisited”).

Penned by Travis Milloy ("Pandorum"), "Exit 147" will find Cage playing a cop who gets involved in some mind games with a woman escaping the abusive husband he has arrested. Figgis says this movie will have "edgy humour" and that it’s an ensemble piece with a handful of narrative threads.

For a long time now, Figgis has been carving his own experimental/indie path, but this sounds like something, if not quite mainstream, then certainly more standard. Production will begin in January. [Variety
