Colin Trevorrow Readies Area 51 Conspiracy Thriller Over At Paramount

The “Jurassic World” franchise returns to theaters this summer with “Rebirth,” but without Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the 2015 reboot and 2022’s “Jurassic World Dominion.”  So if Trevorrow isn’t working with dinosaurs anymore, what’s he up to next?

Deadline has the scoop there.  Trevorrow’s next pic is over at Paramount, and it’s an late-80’s-set pic about a Las Vegas TV news journalist who broke the story of Area 51.  Sounds promising, but it’s not clear if the conspiracy thriller is a big blockbuster or something smaller in scope.  Time will tell there, but Trevorrow’s worked on both scales with ease (2012’s “Safety Not Guaranteed” and 2017’s “The Book Of Henry” had small budgets).

Maximum Effort will produce the still-untitled pick via Johnny Pariseau, with Trevorrow producing through his Metronome banner with Ryan Reynolds, George Dewey, and Ashley Fox.  Thomas and William Wheeler pen the film’s script, and executive produce with Annys Hamilton. Patrick Gooing is also on board as an executive producer.

Trevorrow landed 2015’s “Jurassic World” after the very buzzy “Safety Not Guaranteed,” and his franchise relaunch ended up one of that year’s second-biggest box-office winner at $1.67 billion.  However, Trevorrow only wrote and executive-produced the 2018 sequel “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” returning to direct “Dominion” in 2022.  That film also grossed over $1 billion.  Universal went in a different direction for this year’s “Rebirth,” though, with Gareth Edwards directing.

Stay tuned for more details about Trevorrow’s new pic at Paramount, which probably won’t hit theaters until 2027.
