With the release of “Marriage Story” leading to more people than ever before raving about writer-director Noah Baumbach, it appears the filmmaker is ready to make his relationship with Netflix official.

According to Netflix, the filmmaker behind previous streaming films “Marriage Story” and “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)” is entering an exclusive deal with Netflix to write and direct films “for the next several years.) And it appears that the first film in this new relationship is the previously reported, “White Noise.”
“When I started in the film industry I dreamed of having a home,” said Baumbach. “It took me about 25 years but it was worth the wait. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be making movies with Ted and Scott and everyone at Netflix, who are wonderful collaborators and friends and family.”
Ted Sarandos, Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer added, “For more than two decades Noah has been writing and directing some of the most personal and influential films in American cinema. When we started to work together almost 4 years ago, he immediately felt like family and I’m thrilled we’re finally making it official.”
As mentioned, the first film in the new deal is the adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel, “White Noise.” And while Netflix didn’t mention this in the announcement, it has been reported (and we have been able to verify it) that the feature will star none other than Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig, who both have plenty of history with Baumbach in the past.
Driver, of course, is one of the stars of “Marriage Story” and is one of the best actors working today. So, his addition to the film is nothing but good news. And for Gerwig, she and Baumbach are not only real-life partners, but they have worked together on “Frances Ha,” “Mistress America,” and the upcoming “Barbie,” which they are co-writing.
It’s unclear when we might see “White Noise” arrive on Netflix, but filming is expected to begin sometime later this year. So, it sounds as if a 2022 date is likely.
