'Nyad': Jodie Foster & Annette Bening Join The Cast Of The Upcoming Film From 'Free Solo' Directors

After their Oscar-winning success with the documentary “Free Solo,” and the awards recognition they’ve already received for last year’s “The Rescue,” all eyes are on what’s next for directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. And it appears they’re finally putting together the cast for their narrative feature debut, “Nyad.”

According to THR, the directing duo have signed Jodie Foster and Annette Bening to join the growing cast of their upcoming narrative feature, “Nyad,” for Netflix. The film is expected to tell the story of marathon swimmer Diana Nyad, who in 2013 (when she was 64 years old) became the first person to swim 110 miles from Cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage. And for those wondering how long that swim took Nyad, she was able to finish it in only 53 hours. Bening is set to play Nyad, while Foster will play Bonnie Stoll, her coach and friend.

The script for “Nyad” was written by Ann Biderman and Julia Cox. As mentioned, the drama marks the first non-doc feature for the married filmmaking duo of Vasarhelyi and Chin. This isn’t the first narrative project they’ve been mentioned for though. They’ve also been reportedly attached to a heist film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, but we haven’t heard much about that since it was announced back in 2019.

It’s unclear when we might see “Nyad” arrive on Netflix. A production date has yet to be announced. However, with Bening and Foster leading the cast and the Oscar-winning duo behind the camera, you better believe people will be excited to see this film whenever it hits the streamer.
