Actors Callum Turner (“Eternity”) and Monica Barbaro (“A Complete Unknown”) are leading a new romantic comedy with an interesting twist, as the story of “One Night Only” is set in a world where premarital sex is criminalized (we can barely wrap our heads around that concept).
We now have first-look images from the movie from writer/director Will Gluck, which features Turner working at a New York City pizza parlor. Pairing Barbaro and Turner together (the two play Allie and Owen) feels like lightning in a bottle, but we’ll have to wait to see if that is simply due to these striking stills.
The original draft of Travis Braun‘s Black List script for “One Night Only” is said to follow “two strangers who scramble to find someone to sleep with on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal.”
Why is unmarried sex illegal in this alternative version of our world? Well, speaking with EW, Gluck said, “No one remembers. It’s like all things political; no one remembers why. That’s not the point. The point is that they have an exception for one night a year.”
Others that are featured in the film include Molly Ringwald (“The Kissing Booth”), LeVar Burton (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”), Julia Fox (“Uncut Gems”), and Este Haim (“Anyone But You”).
You can view that batch of first-look images from Entertainment Weekly below. It feels like a teaser trailer for “One Night Only” is just around the corner, with distributor Universal Pictures setting the release date for August 7, 2026.
