Oscar Isaac To Fans Upset Over 'The Last Jedi:' "Make What You Would Want To See"

Since last December, we’ve heard from a variety of people involved with “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” regarding the fan reaction to the controversial film. Because it’s the Internet and it’s 2018, you either are someone who thinks ‘The Last Jedi’ is the greatest entry in the storied franchise or you probably think writer-director Rian Johnson is the worst person on the face of the Earth who should rot in Hell for the crimes he committed against George Lucas.

We’ve heard from the aforementioned Johnson, who has not been shy about being disgusted by the toxic fans that erupted after the film was released. There’s been so much (and seriously, we mean so, so, soso, so, so much) talk from Mark Hamill before and after. And now, it appears the voice of reason, Oscar Isaac has stepped forward to give these scorned fans a little advice.

“What I think is really special about the whole thing — particularly for people that really didn’t agree with where the story went — is that it’s often a great inspiration to do your own stuff,” he says in an interview with Yahoo. “Obviously, making your own ‘Star Wars’ movie is a bit of a tough challenge, but at least from a narrative standpoint maybe you make your own thing and then show what you would want. Make what you would want to see.”

Of course, little does Isaac know that fans are attempting to #RemakeTheLastJedi, with a campaign to crowdfund the budget to fix all of the evil caused by Johnson. And the jokes on Isaac! Because as of this writing, the Remake The Last Jedi website says that $412 million of real “money” has been pledged. As long as all those people come through with their pledges, these fans will have twice the budget that Johnson had!

Poe Dameron also talked about being “court-martialed” at Comic-Con by a group of fans that feel the character was one of the big instigators of all the bad that came the Resistance’s way. But Isaac wasn’t hurt at all by fans’ disapproval of his character’s actions.

“I love that,” he said. “It’s incredible, because you have people actually engaging with the ethical question of war and what leadership is. The last thing you want is for people to watch a movie and be like, ‘Great,’ and then move on. With [‘The Last Jedi’], the conversation continues and can stir real emotions. You’re having a conversation about actual things that matter, you know?”

We’ll have to see if Poe will be redeemed when “Star Wars: Episode IX” is released on December 20, 2019.
