Mark Hamill Refuses To Believe Luke's Fate In 'The Last Jedi'

Once “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” ended, and the credits rolled, fans were all left wondering the same question. Is Luke Skywalker really dead?

Actor Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker has been at the center of much online debate, since ‘The Last Jedi’ hit theaters last December. Fans all over the world seem divided over how writer/director Rian Johnson treated the character, particularly considering this seems to be Luke’s swansong. Count Mark Hamill as one of those fans that didn’t care for the character’s treatment. Hamill hasn’t been shy voicing his issues with ‘The Last Jedi’ and Luke’s character arc. In fact, the actor has his own ideas about what happened at the end of the film.

In an interview with the BBC, Hamill discussed Skywalker’s fate saying, “I refuse to believe that he’s gone. My theory is he just teleported to somewhere else and left his robe behind. He teleported to a nudist colony, that’s what I’m hoping.”

Of course, Hamill was half-joking when he made these remarks, but there is also, no doubt, some truth in his statement. He obviously doesn’t want to believe Skywalker is gone forever, and he’s hoping that, just maybe, ‘Episode IX‘ director J.J. Abrams might bring him back for the concluding chapter. Luke teleporting into some other place would logically work, given “Star Wars” lore. Disney XD’s “Star Wars Rebels” brought forth the idea of teleportation, and that series is generally loved by devoted fans. Just don’t expect Skywalker to be at a nudist colony. It is Disney we’re talking about.

Also, it would be crazy to think Abrams doesn’t have plans to bring back Hamill for the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga. At the very least, Luke can return as a Force ghost. As happened with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda before him, Luke’s “ghost” is real possibility and almost a guarantee to show up in the next film.

But is that enough to make fans happy?
