Oscars 2020: 'Parasite' Rules Academy Warfare With Best Picture Win

It’s that time of year, again. The members of the Academy have voted and tonight, the world finds out which people will take home the Oscars. Did “1917” continue to dominate and take home Best Picture? Or maybe, Hollywood came to its senses and recognized the greatness that is “Parasite?” Tonight, we found out.

As the night wore on, it was clear that the buzz that surrounded “1917” might have worn off by the time Oscar voters turned in their ballots. As the Sam Mendes film only won a couple of awards (cinematography and sound mixing), there was Bong Joon-ho cleaning up with four awards, including truly shocking wins for Best Director and, of course, Best Picture.

And in a fitting end to its historic box office run and awards season haul, “Parasite” walks away from the 2020 Oscars as the only foreign-language film in history to take home the Best Picture trophy. Obviously, for fans of South Korean cinema and international cinema, in general, this is a truly historic moment, and proof that maybe, just maybe, the Academy can get it right for once.
