‘Poor Things’ Extended Look Trailer: Yorgos Lanthimos’ Latest Film With Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo & More Hits Theaters On December 8

After winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film FestivalYorgos Lanthimos‘ “Poor Things” may be the most anticipated movie still to come in 2023. But it’s not just nabbing Venice’s top prize: “Poor Things” received unanimous praise from the Lido, with many critics already proclaiming it the year’s (or even decade’s) best film. Is it all hype or is Lanthimos on his way to collecting another Best Picture Oscar at the Academy Awards?

Movie audiences have less than two months until they make their own judgments, as “Poor Things” hits theaters in early December. But here’s a new extending trailer, with lead Emma Stone explaining the film and her character’s purpose, to drum up further hype. Lanthimos’ latest adapts Alasdair Gray‘s 1992 novel of the same name, about a young reanimated woman who looks for freedom in every way possible.

Here’s an official synopsis for “Poor Things” courtesy of Searchlight Pictures:

From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

“Poor Things” stars Emma StoneMark RuffaloWillem Dafoe, and Ramy Youssef.  Jerrod CarmichaelChristopher Abbott, and Margaret Qualley also star.

Lanthimos directs a script by Tony McNamara, adapting Gray’s novel. Stone and Lanthimos lead the film’s producing team with Andrew Lowe and Ed Guiney.
