Post DreamWorks Split, Paramount Scales Back Releases

Ah, the economic climate. Despite claiming the opposite earlier this year, Paramount has announced – post DreamWorks split of course – that they will be scaling back the number of films they release a year to 20 movies.

The studio is doing so”to more effectively compete in the changing marketplace and to realize the maximum financial benefit of the series of new operating efficiencies achieved by the studio.”

Translation: the market for everything sucks right now and we’re cutting our losses to releasing profitable films only. Someone like David Fincher should be glad he’s releasing ‘Benjamin Button’ this year. [Variety]
