Got a Tip?

‘A Prophet’ Leads European Film Awards; New ‘Wonderland’ & ‘Parnassus’ Posters; Åkerlund Directs Rammstein

-The European Film Award nominations have been released and Jacques Audiard’s “A Prophet” along with Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” lead the way with six nods each. There are few surprises among the nominees, with the most of the pictures having received critical plaudits over the past year. “The White Ribbon” and “Broken Embraces” each earned four notices, while “Let The Right One In,” “The Reader,” “Fish Tank” and “Coco Avant Chanel” crowd each other with three nominations each. Surprisingly, the critically divisive “Antichrist” picked up Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Actress nominations, while in truly WTF move, the god-awful “Transporter 3” is in the running for a People’s Choice Award. Winners will be announced on December 12th.

-New posters for Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” and Terry Gilliam’s “The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus” have arrived and they are both extremely busy, extremely ugly graphic design disasters. “Alice In Wonderland” lazily cuts and pastes a bunch of character stills onto a background to create an eyesore where no one on the one-sheet is looking at each other while being drowned out by being surrounded by as much whimy as possible. Meanwhile, the poster for Gilliam’s latest Photoshops together a bunch of stuff from the movie into an inchoherent whole, while cramming in as many names as possible, hoping that potential audiences find somebody they recognize among the names and decide to buy a ticket.

-Jonas Åkerlund, who cut his teeth making cutting edge for music videos for the likes of Moby, The Prodigy, Madonna, Metallica, The Smashing Pumpkins, U2, Jane’s Addiction, and Blink 182 — and who is responsible for dreadful drug film “Spun” — has stepped behind camera for Rammstein’s latest single, “Pussy.” As you might expect from a song bearing that name, the video is definitely NSFW and starts with a lot of boob and crotch shots, and ends with the members of the band performing uncensored hardcore sex. Unless you’ve always wanted to see the members of Rammstein naked and receiving blowjobs, you can stay away. And the song fucking sucks, which is fitting as Åkerlund is largely a hack these days.
