‘Purple Hearts' Trailer: Sofia Carson Stars In Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum’s New Romantic Drama Coming To Netflix

Whether it’s romantically-tinged or comedically-flecked, the YA genre is alive and strong on Netflix. Next in line on the more romantic/dramatic end of things is “Purple Hearts” from director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, most prominently known for her work on television shows such as “Pretty Little Liars” (2019), and “Empire” (2018).

“Purple Hearts” is a film adaptation of the book released in 2017 by Tess Wakefield and is written by Kyle Jarrow (“Star Trek: Discovery”) and Liz Gracia (“Dawson’s Creek”).

Here’s the official synopsis:

In spite of their many differences, struggling singer-songwriter Cassie and Luke, a marine with a troubled past, agree to marriage solely for the military benefits. When tragedy strikes, the line between what’s real and what’s pretend begins to blur in this romantic drama.

“Purple Hearts” will be Rosenbaum’s second time directing for a feature, with her other project “Sneakerella” which is set to star Lexi Underwood and Chosen Jacobs, scheduled for release later this summer. Produced by Leslie Morgenstein “Gossip Girl” (2021), and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton “Work It” (2019), “Purple Hearts” is a musical, with themes of romance and drama. 

“Purple Hearts” stars Sofia Carson, most known for her work in the Disney franchise “Descendants” and has more recently been focusing on her music career with singles like “Loud” and “It’s Only Love, Nobody Dies” from her 2022 self-titled album. Alongside Carson, the film features Nicholas Galitzine, known for his role as Prince Robert in Amazon Prime’s, “Cinderella” (2021).   The full cast includes Chosen Jacobs, John Harlan Kim, Anthony Ippolito, Kat Cunning, Sarah Rich, Scott Deckert, and Linden Ashby.

“Purple Hearts” will make its Netflix debut on July 29. Watch the new trailer below.
