Everyone needs their broad four-quadrant offering, even streamers. If Netflix had the mega budgeted “Red Notice” with Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds, now Amazon MGM has its analogous version with “Red One.” Also starring Dwayne Johnson opposite Chris Evans, “Red One” centers on two mismatched men—a bounty hunter and a lead security detail—who are assigned to retrieve a kidnapped target. But this ain’t any old victim, yep, “Red One,” is a Christmas movie and the abduced target is Santa Claus himself.

“Red One” also stars Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Wesley Kimmel, and J.K. Simmons as Santa Claus.
For a big four-quadrant tentpole like this, Amazon has tapped director Jake Kasdan, known for big, family-friendly fare like “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle” and “Jumanji: Next Level.”
