TV projects normally move faster than films. However, in the case of Ryan Murphy, he’s making sure that his upcoming slate of Netflix series, which comes as part of the producer’s nine-figure deal, is jam-packed with talent. And that takes time. Well, with his first series for the streamer, “The Politician,” on the verge of launching, Murphy is ready to unveil a couple of more TV series he has lined up, including one major musical adaptation and a series starring none other than Ewan McGregor.
According to a new interview with Time, Murphy revealed that he has a couple of high-profile series coming in the future, including an adaptation of “A Chorus Line” and a new series covering the life and career of fashion designer Halston.
“A Chorus Line” is set to be a 10-episode series and will adapt the classic musical that follows the story of a group of folks auditioning to be part of a Broadway, uh, chorus line. The musical won 9 Tony awards in 1976, including Best Musical. There’s no word on who might be attached to star in the series or help Murphy in the creation, but you better believe that this is the type of project that will attract some big-name talent.
Next on his docket is a new series based on the life of beloved fashion designer Halston, with actor Ewan McGregor attached to star in the lead. For those not familiar with his work, Halston was one of the first superstar fashion designers in the 1970s. He was also famous for being a mainstay at the legendary night club, Studio 54. CNN Films released a documentary about the designer earlier this year at Sundance.
As mentioned, these projects already join Murphy’s current Netflix slate, which features “The Politician,” as well as the upcoming star-studded film “The Prom.”
No word on when we might see these projects, but it could be a while, especially for McGregor’s Halston series, as the actor is currently tied up to another massive show — the highly-anticipated Disney+ series focused on the “Star Wars” character Obi-Wan Kenobi.
