This week looks to add to another crowded June lineup, as both “Scary Movie” and the “Masters of the Universe” reboot duke it out for audience attention this weekend (will also have to contend with sensational original horror hits “Obsession” and “Backrooms”). Paramount Pictures has sent over the final trailer for the former parody pic helmed by director Michael Tiddes that sees the grand return of The Wayans Family to the spoof franchise after a lengthy hiatus.
As you might have suspected, they’re not only aiming to send up modern horror movies but also Hollywood and the entertainment world as a whole; the creative team is well-known as equal-opportunity offenders, promising to keep their streak of tasteless humor chugging along here. The latest footage in this new trailer is an obvious send-up of Jordan Peele’s “Get Out.”

The talent assembled for the comedy features Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Kenan Thompson, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Damon Wayans Jr., Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Cameron Scott Roberts, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Benny Zielke, and Ruby Snowber.
An official synopsis for the latest installment, courtesy of Paramount:
Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs, and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.
Tiddes is directing from a script penned by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. Feel free to view the final trailer for “Scary Movie” as it debuts this weekend in theaters.
