Scott Cooper Says Christian Bale Will Star In His Remake Of Laurent Cantet’s ‘Time Out’ & Teases More Work Together

It’s clear that Christian Bale is the type of actor who loves to collaborate with specific filmmakers multiple times over his career. He’s done that with Adam McKay, David O. Russell, and Scott Cooper, just to name a few. And it appears that his relationship with the latter filmmaker there is far from over anytime soon, even as they prepare the release of their third film together, “The Pale Blue Eye.”

Speaking in an upcoming interview with The Playlist, we had the chance to ask filmmaker Scott Cooper about his relationship with Christian Bale and if they plan on making more films together. They’re already rumored to make a mystery film titled “Valhalla,” together, but according to the filmmaker, he has even more ideas for him and Bale to tackle in the future.

“Yes, he and I will eventually make ‘Valhalla,’” Cooper explained. “I’ve also long wanted to reimagine Laurent Cantet’s 2001 French film ‘L’Emploi du temps,’ which translates to ‘Time Out,’ which is about an unemployed man who finds his life sinking more and more into trouble as he hides his situation from his family and friends. So, at some point, hopefully, you’ll get a fourth film from Christian and myself. Both of us, certainly, like stories that say something deep-rooted about American life and its relationship with the darker corners of the human psyche.”

Incidentally, if that’s not clear, Cooper confirmed on the recent WTF podcast (listen below) that Bale definitely intends to star in the remake of “Time Out” for the director and it sounds like it may even be coming next.

Before their most recent film, the gothic mystery, “The Pale Blue Eye,” Cooper and Bale worked together on the films “Hostiles” and “Out of the Furnace.” Both of those films were very well received by critics, and the early word is that “The Pale Blue Eye” is another win for the duo. And judging by that output, we’re definitely excited to see what they might work on in the future, whether it’s a remake of a French film or whatever “Valhalla” ends up looking like.
