Seth Rogen Is Bringing 'The Boys' To Cinemax

Seth Rogen The BoysMuch like the upcoming "Preacher," for years, the adaptation Garth Ennisother acclaimed comic "The Boys," was a hard one to get made. The ultra violent source material follows a group of government grunts tasked with keeping superheroes in check, only to wind up being reckless and selfish themselves. For a while, Adam McKay had the project set up at Paramount, but as he told us last fall, they just weren’t biting on his extreme script. Nor was anyone else.

"I was trying to do Garth Ennis’ ‘The Boys’ at one point, and I took it to every studio, every production financing place in town. And they were always like, ‘No.’ I had this crazy pre-viz reel that I’d done, and it was insane, like superheroes doing cocaine. And they all said, lazily, ‘So it’s like ‘Watchmen‘?’ And then eventually I started realizing that no one was going to do it, and I started pitching the craziest aspects of it, embracing the fact that they hated it," McKay said. Well, once again, the small screen is going to task the risks their big screen counterparts won’t.

Deadline reports that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Neal Moritz — the team who brought "Preacher" to life at AMC after many years of kicking around — are now working on "The Boys" at Cinemax. Rogen and Goldberg will helm the Eric Kripke ("Supernatural") penned pilot, though there’s no word yet on casting. However, for years McKay has said Simon Pegg would be the perfect fit for Hughie.

Overall, this is another big win for Rogen and Goldberg who are continuing to make a bigger and bigger imprint on TV, just as they have on the big screen. Thoughts? Dream casting? Let us know below.
