Remember when it was announced last summer that Seth Rogen would be writing an modern update of “The Green Hornet” (the original TV series featured Van Williams and this kid named Bruce Lee) ?
Well, apparently the project is now a definite go and has a release date of June 25, 2010 according to EW’s Hollywood Insider blog.
Like all of the recent scripts he’s written (“Superbad,” “Pineapple Express,”), Rogen will be penning the film with his constant screenwriting buddy Evan Goldberg. The chubby Canadian star will play the role of the Green Hornet (b0red playboy millionaire Britt Reid; aren’t they always bored and unsatisfied?), but the actor to play the Kato role has yet to be announced. No director is attached yet.
We have no sentimental attachment to this character or show, so we don’t see the fuss (Michel Gondry was once all about this character too), but we didn’t particularly care for Tony Stark either and look how well that turned out, so who knows. Like all remakes (i.e., recycled ideas), let’s just hope they don’t fuck it up too much (not that we care about the original “spirit” or anything). Eh.
