While some Marvel fans and action movie observers were a bit put off this spring when Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow spent a chunk of "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" sidelined from the action, waiting for one of her superhero dude pals to rescue her, "Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation" offers something refreshing. Rebecca Ferguson kicks serious butt and holds her own as a mysterious woman with her own agenda that Tom Cruise‘s Ethan Hunt encounters in the film. She has her own story and motivations, but she’s more than capable of taking down anyone crossing her path —she’s not just a pretty face. However, the marketing for the film tells a different story.
While the trailers for the film managed to balance Ferguson’s sex appeal and ass-kicking abilities, when it came to the one-sheets, she got treated quite differently, as co-star Simon Pegg noticed.
“When the posters came out, it was me in a jacket, Tom in a jacket. Jeremy in a jacket, Ving (Rhames) in a jacket and Rebecca in leather with her (butt) sticking out. It was like, ‘no, don’t do that,’ ” the actor told USA Today. “We’re doing something good here. Trying to, at least.”
To refresh your memory, we’ve put those one sheets below. What do you think? Could the marketing team have done better by Ferguson? ‘Rogue Nation’ opens tomorrow.
