The directing duo of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are very hands-on with their films. Not only do they tend to write and direct the features, but they also produce, edit, and sometimes star in the films, as well. That’s exactly the case in their next feature, “Something in the Dirt.”
As seen in the new teaser for “Something in the Dirt,” the film follows the story of two neighbors who seemingly witness a supernatural event. However, as you might expect from the duo who melted minds with their breakout film, “The Endless,” their new film isn’t as straightforward as the plot would lead you to believe. Benson and Moorhead are filmmakers who love to play with tropes and subvert expectations, with a ton of style along the way.
In our review from Sundance, we said, “their latest fusion of science fiction, character drama, dark comedy, and overwhelming paranoia, ‘Something in the Dirt,’ feels like their most personal film – and not just because they wear so many hats, directing and writing and producing and editing and starring. It’s something of a homemade effort, after the bigger canvas and movie-star leads of ‘SYNCHRONIC’ (the film ends with a dedication ‘to making movies with your friends’), and it feels like it – in the best possible way.”
“Something in the Dirt” arrives in theaters on November 4. You can watch the teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Two new neighbors witness what seems to be a supernatural event in one of their apartments. At first terrified, they realize that documenting this phenomenon could provide them the lives they’ve always dreamed of.
