‘Songbird’ Trailer: The World Is Being Ravaged By The COVID-23 Virus In The Michael Bay-Produced Thriller

Are you ready for a thriller about an unstoppable pandemic (dubbed COVID-23) that is wiping out millions of humans and forced people to stay in lockdown for four years? Maybe it’s a bit too soon? Well, the people behind the upcoming film, “Songbird,” sure hope you’re ready.

As seen in the trailer for “Songbird,” the thriller tells the close-to-home story of a world in the midst of the COVID-23 pandemic and the current fourth year of lockdown. Two young people (KJ Apa and Sofia Carson) have found love during this virus incident but are forced to stay apart due to the quarantine regulations. That all changes when the young woman might be exposed to COVID-23 and the government is after her, trying to, uh, eliminate the virus.

Normally, this would be a thriller that might not register with the general public. We’ve seen this sort of dystopian future, virus-plagued world film before. But the fact that “Songbird” was written and produced during a very real lockdown and the world is still in the midst of a pandemic gives an eerie feeling to the whole film. It’ll be interesting to see if people are ready to watch something that shows the worst-case scenario of what they’re experiencing right now.

“Songbird” is from director Adam Mason, who wrote the feature alongside Simon Boyes, and stars Apa and Carson alongside Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser, and Demi Moore. As mentioned, the film went through its 17-day production during the pandemic, with the filming conditions being reported as less-than-safe by an anonymous crew member. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company also had a hand in the production.

A release date for “Songbird” has yet to be released. Obviously, this is a timely film, so it would make sense for STX to want to get this out as soon as possible. However, with theatrical releases in question for the foreseeable future, it’s uncertain which route the distributor will take.
